rAge 2012
It's been nearly 2 weeks since rAge, and I'm finally able to get something written down about it.
This year I cosplayed Undertaker from Black Butler; a cosplay I have worn before, but totally adore.
I only attending on the Saturday - I had intended to go on the Sunday as well, but I had a MAJOR con hangover from all the fizzy drinks I had had trying to hydrate myself and also the fact that I could barely walk >___>.
I know some of you are wondering why I did not go as Dio [last exile] like I had planned and it's a long story involving emotional problems, lack of motivation, procrastination and then a botch up that could not be fixed quickly; SO I plan to start the Dio cosplay again, from scratch [I have a proper pattern this time] and I will be cosplaying as him at ICON [when the weather is colder]; Hopefully I will have myself a Luciolla by then ^____________^.
Back on track- This year, I was asked to be a judge for the cosplay competition which was a great opportunity, and I am truly honoured.
It wasn't easy being a judge, I can tell you, when I wanted to give almost everyone a prize [I say almost everyone because I immediately disqualified anyone who tried to 'entice' the crowd with inappropriate poses keep it family friendly people!]
I was in my element up there, on the stage, viewing things from a judges point of view; it was great but I missed a lot while doing judge-ly things which is the only big down side to being a cosplayer and a judge.
I had a great time though, even amongst all that chaos [and the HEAT!!!] I managed to join in on the Gangnum style flash mob, did a little lip syncing to Born This Way [Don't be a drag, just be a queen >____< ], spoke with cosplayers I had only spoken to online or seen at last year's rAge and made some new friends.
I only wish there had been less people at rAge, so I could have spoken to everyone and taken pictures with EVERYONE I didn't get a chance to take pictures the WHOLE day TT____TT.
I am truly impressed and proud, as a cosplayer, to have seen so many people cosplaying at rAge, and I only hope the cosplay community in South Africa will grow and develop even more.
And I just have to give a big shout out to Legion Ink, who spent so much time and effort organising the cosplay competition; and even though there were a couple hiccups and complaints, I can say that it was a job well done and with every mistake, improvements can be made. I can only hope next year will be even better!
